GOP Poll Shows Joe Manchin’s Seat in Play

A new poll commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), released on Wednesday, shows Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) seat could be back in play for Republicans this year.

The poll found that Manchin’s Republican opponent, Patrick Morrisey, is now leading Manchin 44 percent to 42 percent, according to the Washington Examiner.

At the start of the 2018 election cycle Republicans were bullish about their chances of flipping Manchin’s seat, given how popular President Trump is in West Virginia. Trump carried the state by 42 points in 2016.

Despite Trump’s popularity in the state, Manchin is currently holding a 12-point lead over Morrisey in the RealClearPolitics polling average.

This poll could be the first sign that Morrisey is gaining on Manchin’s lead, once believed to be insurmountable.
