At the weekly Senate GOP press conference, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) expressed pride that his state was well-represented in the Winter Olympics, but the NRSC chief took the opportunity to criticize the mainstream media’s praise of the North Korean presence at the games.

“There’s also been a lot of fawning in this Olympics about North Korea, a lot of people fawning over smiles from dictators of the Kim family,” he said. “A lot of smiles over slaves forced to cheer for the North Korean team.”

Gardner called on Americans to be “smart enough” to remember the nuclear threat emanating from Pyongyang’s weapons program.

“Smiles and forced cheers aren’t going to replace what is happening as hundreds of thousands in North Korea are being tortured,” the senator added, identifying the crimes of the Kim regime. “They are being killed. They are being starved. And we can do better.”

Gardner praised Vice President Mike Pence’s refusal to acknowledge the North Korean delegation during his time at the games.
