If you go after John James, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, you best not miss. Abdul El-Sayed, a former Democratic candidate for governor of Michigan who lost in a summer primary, learned that lesson the hard way on Tuesday.

It all started when Kimberly Guilfoyle, an adviser to a pro-Trump group, announced Tuesday morning that Donald Trump, Jr., the president’s son, will campaign with musician Kid Rock in support of James.

El-Sayed said he’s “[t]hrilled” Trump, Jr. is coming to Michigan, adding: “Nothing describes @MIGOP better than a man who has done nothing of value but mooch off his daddy–who mooched off his daddy. No action, just words.”

James took El-Sayed’s tweet as a suggestion that he “mooched” off others. And James’s response on Twitter has 20,000-plus retweets as of Wednesday morning:

El-Sayed offered a two-tweet response that, unlike James’s tweet, was not retweeted 20,000 times.

James won this round.
