Hardly Anyone Showed Up for Kamala Harris’s Campaign Event in Iowa

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), a possible 2020 presidential candidate, held a campaign event at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) on Tuesday, and it appears more reporters attended the event than Iowa voters.

Reporters following around Harris were quick to comment on the small crowds at the early voting rally at UNI, which featured Harris and the Democratic candidate for Secretary of State in Iowa, Deidre Dejear.

Based on video from ABC’s Johnny Verhovek, it appears Harris spoke to a crowd of about a dozen people total.

Politico’s David Siders reported on how a passing student asked him, “What’s this for?” before the event.

“Kamala Harris,” Siders responded. “What’s that?” the student asked.

This probably isn’t the energy and enthusiasm that Harris hoped for when she announced her trip to Iowa.
