Harris Suggests Her Office Was Too Big to Notice Sexual Harassment by Former Top Aide

“First of all, it was a very painful experience to know that something can happen in one's office of almost 5,000 people, granted, but that I didn't know about it," Harris said.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) suggested that she was unaware that a former top aide was accused of sexual harassment because her office was too big during an interview with CNN on Wednesday.

In December Larry Wallace who served as the director of the Division of Law Enforcement for Harris when she was attorney general of California, was forced to resign when it was discovered he settled a $400,000 sexual harassment case with a former subordinate.

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Harris how she didn’t know about this allegation and what lessons she learned.

“First of all, it was a very painful experience to know that something can happen in one’s office of almost 5,000 people, granted, but that I didn’t know about it,” Harris said. “That being said, I take full responsibility for anything that has happened in my office. I always do, I always will. The buck stops with me.”

Harris was on CNN touting her new book “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey,” in which she praises Wallace for his “leadership.”
