Harwood: House Democrats More Likely to Impeach Due to Barr’s Handling of Probe

CNBC’s John Harwood tweeted following Attorney General William Barr’s press conference concerning the release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s final report that Barr’s handling of the investigation “will make it harder for House Democratic leaders to resist initiating impeachment proceedings.”

Mueller spent nearly two years investigating whether President Trump’s 2016 election colluded with the Russian government. Barr told reporters on Thursday that Mueller’s final report found no evidence to suggest that this was the case.

Democrats and members of the media have been critical of Barr’s handling of the release of Mueller’s final report, but Harwood took that criticism a step further, suggesting it could lead to Trump’s impeachment by House Democrats.

“Barr’s handling of this will make it harder for House Democratic leaders to resist initiating impeachment proceedings,” Harwood tweeted.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has said that Trump was not worth impeachment but added that impeachment might be “imperative” after Democrats see the full Mueller report.
