Hawley Blasts McCaskill on Kavanaugh: ‘Stand Up to [Your] Party’

Hawley Blasts McCaskill on Kavanaugh: ‘Stand Up to [Your] Party’

“Claire McCaskill ought to quit hiding, come right out and say she’s going to support him, and then stand up to her party and challenge them to support him also,” Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO) told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday. “That would be leadership.”

Hawley is not mincing words when it comes to the battle to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. KZRG reported on Hawley’s Wednesday appearance on Fox News, which came hours after McCaskill met with Kavanaugh and released a non-committal statement on the nominee.

KZRG‘s Ty Albright wrote:

Hawley appeared on ‘Fox and Friends’ Wednesday morning with Brian Kilmeade, and immediately went after his democratic opponent. “Here’s what Claire McCaskill tends to do, whatever Chuck Schumer gives her permission to do. She had to get permission from Schumer to even sit down with Kavanaugh. A Missouri Senator should not be asking party bosses for permission.”

A Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List poll released just before the Kavanaugh nomination in July found that a majority of Missourians (57 percent) want McCaskill to confirm Trump’s Supreme Court appointment. Only 43 percent want McCaskill to oppose Kavanaugh.

It appears Hawley wants to make McCaskill’s choice one between siding with her constituents or siding with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
