Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) leaned closer than ever to confirming a 2020 run for president on Thursday, telling a meeting that “I think there’s a pretty good chance we’re going to go ahead and do it.”

The Mountain Mail reported:

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said he will likely run for office in 2020 at a meeting Wednesday in Salida.

“We haven’t made up our mind yet, but I think there’s a pretty good chance we’re going to go ahead and do it,” Hickenlooper said.

Hickenlooper said Colorado is a place where people can be civil while disagreeing and is a good model for how collaboration could work on a national level.

Hickenlooper will be in Iowa on Friday. Iowa, of course, is the first state in the nation that will hold a Democratic nominating contest in 2020.

The comments from Hickenlooper on Wednesday may be part of an effort by his team to barrel through a barrage of bad ethics headlines and forge ahead with a presidential run. NTK Network has tracked that effort this week.

NTK Network also wrote this week that the ethics complaint could be a major problem for Hickenlooper’s presidential bid, or anything else he decides to run for in 2020.
