Former Colorado governor and 2020 presidential hopeful John Hickenlooper asked a somewhat tone-deaf question regarding running mate choices during a CNN town hall on Wednesday.

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Hickenlooper if he would vow to put a woman on the ticket if he were to win the party’s nomination. Other men running have made similar pledges.

“Well, again, of course. But I think that we should be — well, I’ll ask you another question,” Hickenlooper said. “But how come we’re not asking more often the women, would you be willing to put a man on the ticket?”

“When we get to that point, I’ll ask you that question,” Bash responded.
