Hickenlooper: Would Be ‘Exciting and Fun’ to Run for President in 2020

Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) has given largely-similar answers lately to the question of whether he might run for president in 2020.

It’s an answer Colorado Politics called “coy” on Monday, and it goes something like this: Hickenlooper’s looking at a presidential run with his family, but in the meantime, he’s focused on finishing his last year as governor strong.

Hickenlooper said much of the same at an event with municipal leaders in Vail, Colorado on Friday, according to footage obtained by NTK Network, but was a little less coy than usual.

“Do you have a sense of what you wanna do next year, or the year after?” a fan of Hickenlooper’s in the audience asked him, to laughter and applause from the audience. Hickenlooper smiled and took a sip of his drink, before rolling his eyes.

Hickenlooper says the question is a “compliment,” before launching into his boilerplate answer.

But then, he deviated from the script, suggesting running for president would be “exciting and fun.”

“It’s exciting and fun to do something like that,” Hickenlooper said, of a potential presidential run, “but also, if done properly, I think it takes a lot of what you all helped create, and we get to talk about Colorado on a national stage.”

It certainly sounds like the governor is strongly considering a run at national office, even with a few months to go in his final term as the leader of Colorado.
