Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be hosting a series of fundraisers for the struggling Democratic National Committee (DNC), according to an NBC News report published on Monday, but hasn’t said whether she will hit the campaign trail in 2018.

Clinton will headline three fundraisers that are being billed as “intimate dinners with discussion,” in the liberal bastions of San Francisco, Chicago, and New York City.

However, while Clinton will fundraise for the Democratic Party, she has not yet decided whether she will hit the campaign trail on behalf of any individual candidate.

According to NBC News:

“Clinton has not made a decision on whether she’ll campaign for individual candidates, according to her spokesman, Nick Merrill. ‘There has never been a more important midterm election, and Secretary Clinton is going to do her part to lift up the next generation of leaders,’ he said.”

Clinton’s reluctance to hit the campaign trail on behalf of an individual candidate makes sense, given how Republicans have attempted to tie vulnerable Democratic candidates to Clinton’s controversial comments.

During the 2016 campaign, Clinton called supporters of President Trump “deplorables.”

After her stunning election loss to Trump, Clinton doubled down on that sentiment.

At an event in India earlier this year, Clinton suggested that people who supported Trump in 2016 did so because they “didn’t like black people getting rights,” or women getting jobs, comments that have been featured prominently in Republican attack ads during the 2018 election cycle.

Shortly after the DNC announced Clinton’s upcoming fundraisers, they also posted their fundraising numbers for the month of a July: an abysmal $7.2 million, compared to the $14.2 million raised by the Republican National Committee (RNC) in July.

To date, the RNC has raised $227.2 million this cycle, and has $41.9 million cash on hand with no debt. The DNC has raised just $116.5 million, and has $7.9 million cash on hand with $6.7 million in debt.

Accounting for debt, the RNC has a 37-to-1 cash advantage over the DNC. Given these fundraising woes, it’s no surprise that the DNC would be eager to host a fundraiser with Clinton, despite her comments.
