Hogan Maintains Strong Approval Rating Ahead of Midterms

A new poll shows that Gov. Larry Hogan (R-MD) is beloved in his home state. According to a Goucher survey, 64 percent of Maryland adults said they approve of the job Hogan is doing. That’s down from 69 percent in April, but the figure still puts Hogan near the top of governors in the country. Hogan’s approval rating has been above 60 percent for the past two years.

And there’s more good news for Hogan, too. The majority of voters believe the state is heading in the right direction:

The poll finds 54 percent think the state is headed in the right direction, while 30 percent say it is headed in the wrong direction.

It also finds that 45 percent feel Hogan has distanced himself just the right amount from President Trump, who has a 71 percent disapproval rating.

Hogan is running for reelection against Ben Jealous, the former president of the NAACP. The poll did find that Maryland adults support some of Jealous’s platform ideas, such as raising the minimum wage and legalizing marijuana for recreational use.

The poll did not gauge voter support in the Hogan versus Jealous match-up, however.
