How Leaders Are Reacting to the News Three American Prisoners in N. Korea Are Coming Home

President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that three Americans who have been detained in North Korea are coming home this week with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was in North Korea for talks with Kim Jong-un.

The return of American prisoners is a major diplomatic win for the Trump administration and may set a positive tone for Trump’s talks with Kim, which, according to the president, now have a “Date & Place.”

Trump will receive the former prisoners at Andrews Air Force Base at 2 a.m. Eastern Time.

Vice President Pence thanked the president and Secretary of State Pompeo, calling the return of the prisoners “a proud and memorable moment for America.”

Secretary Pompeo, for his part, added that his meetings with Kim were “productive.”

And the leader of the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell, called the return of prisoners a moment for hope.
