How This Billionaire, Liberal Couple is Funding the Abortion Industry

Liberal billionaires Laura and John Arnold are best known for their lavish donations to Democrat candidates; their support for soda taxes in various cities and state; and for pledging millions to anti-gun initiatives. They’ve also worked extensively to change the way that congressional districts are drawn in state legislatures across the country.

But the couple, which made its money from the now-defunct Enron where John was an executive, has also given millions of dollars to the abortion industry.

According to an analysis by NTK Network, from December 2015 to December 2017, the Arnolds gave somewhere between $12 million and $30 million to groups like Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and the Guttmacher Institute, known for its commitment to abortion.

In addition to the individual donations the Arnolds have made to political candidates who support abortion, such as President Barack Obama and Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), the Arnolds also gave thousands to the Democratic National Committee, which includes a commitment to abortion in its platform.

Perhaps most controversially, the Laura and John Arnold Foundation paid nearly $1.5 million in grants to Improving Contraceptive Options Now (ICON) between 2015 and 2016. ICON supports the use of long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) methods, such as intra-uterine devices (IUDs) and implants.

While that in and of itself is not controversial, the money that the Arnolds gave to ICON went toward a LARC program that included patients as young as 15 years old:

It’s an open question whether the political candidates that the Arnolds support through their dark money group, Patients for Affordable Drugs, agree with their backers funding projects such as this one, let alone the soda taxes and anti-gun initiatives. But if the Arnolds continue their liberal march across the country, the question is bound to be posed to those candidates sooner or later.
