Hoyer Takes Veiled Shot at Omar in AIPAC Speech

The number two Democrat in the House, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), took a not-so-subtle shot at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for her recent string of anti-Semitic comments during his speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) annual policy conference on Sunday.

Omar found herself embroiled in controversy after she alleged that some politicians in Washington, D.C. had a dual loyalty to America and Israel, comments that many perceived as anti-Semitic.

“I stand with Israel, proudly and unapologetically. So, when someone accuses American supporters of Israel of dual loyalty, I say: Accuse me,” Hoyer said at AIPAC on Sunday, according to The Hill. “I am part of a large, bipartisan coalition in Congress supporting Israel, an overwhelming majority in the Congress of the United States. And I tell Israel’s accusers and detractors: Accuse us.”

While Hoyer did not directly mention Omar’s name in his remarks. it’s clear to whom he was referring.

Hoyer is one of the few notable Democratic leaders to address the annual policy conference after several leading 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls decided not to attend, yielding to pressure from outside progressive groups.
