HYPOCRISY ALERT: Streep Attacks Melania & Ivanka Trump for Silence on Sexual Harassment

Actress Meryl Streep attacked First Lady Melania Trump and Ivanka Trump for their “silence” on sexual harassment while refusing to address her own silence after accusations that disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein allegedly sexually assaulted more than 50 women. Streep made the remarks during in an interview with the New York Times, which was published on Wednesday.

The New York Times’ Cara Buckley asked Streep why she was initially silent following reports that Weinstein allegedly sexually assaulted multiple women.

Streep had collaborated for years with Weinstein on “films like ‘August: Osage County’ and ‘The Iron Lady’ and once jokingly referred to as a ‘God.'”

“I really had to think. Because it really underlined my own sense of cluelessness, and also how evil, deeply evil, and duplicitous, a person he was, yet such a champion of really great work,” Streep told the Times. “You make movies. You think you know everything about everybody. So much gossip. You don’t know anything. People are so inscrutable on a certain level. And it’s a shock. Some of my favorite people have been brought down by this, and he’s not one of them.”

Streep did not say who these accused sexual assaulters were.

Buckley then followed up by asking: “What do you make of the fact, though, that people are waiting for you to speak?”

“I don’t want to hear about the silence of me. I want to hear about the silence of Melania Trump. I want to hear from her. She has so much that’s valuable to say. And so does Ivanka. I want her to speak now,” Streep responded.

Ivanka Trump, however, has been very vocal on the topic of sexual assault, telling an audience in Tokyo back in November that it should “never be tolerated.

Then, when Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore was accused of sexually assaulting multiple women who were minors, Ivanka Trump commented that “there’s a special place in hell” for people who preyed on children.

Streep, on the other hand, was widely criticized for her prolonged silence after multiple women came forward to accuse Weinstein of sexual assault and more recently has come under fire for allegedly knowing about Weinstein’s disturbing behavior for years, allegations that Streep denies.
