Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a human lightning rod of controversy, claimed during a CNN interview on Sunday that her critics are “weaponizing” anti-Semitism in order to “shut down debate” and “vilify” people like her.

“There are people who are genuinely interested in fighting anti-Semitism,” Omar said to the agreement of host Van Jones and Omar’s fellow panelist. “And then there are those that are interested in weaponizing anti-Semitism to shut down debate on whatever they might not agree on and vilify anybody that they might not want to have any kind of platform to have influence.”

Taking Omar’s words at face value, it appears she’s referring to herself as the individual being “vilified” for her remarks.

But it also appears she’s admitting that her remarks are anti-Semitic. Whether one combats anti-Semitism or weaponizes it, anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism.

In February, Omar weaponized anti-Semitism when she perpetuated stereotypes about the Jewish people to make a political point about the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Omar also alleged that Jewish Americans have “dual loyalty” to the U.S. and Israel. The Anti-Defamation League criticized Omar’s comments and labeled them anti-Semitic.

“This accusation that Jews have a dual loyalty or require people to pledge allegiance to a foreign power, it is an anti-Semitic charge that has been used against the Jewish people literally for hundreds of years, long before there was a state of Israel,” Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said on CNN in March.
