In Baffling Strategy, McCaskill Slams Tax Cuts, State of U.S. Economy

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) has a tough re-election fight in 2018, and she’s undertaking an interesting strategy to try to win another six years in the U.S. Senate: bashing the U.S. economy.

Put on the defensive for her vote against tax cuts – and the resulting bonuses and wage hikes that some businesses have given to her constituents – McCaskill has taken to telling people the American economy is not doing so well, despite evidence to the contrary.

The Southeast Missourian reported on Wednesday:

Some major employers such as AT&T issued bonuses to employees after Trump signed the tax measure into law.

But McCaskill, who voted against the tax plan, said the United States has “lost thousands and thousands of jobs even from the companies that are talking about their bonuses.”

McCaskill told reporters “we are continuing to see very meager wage growth.”

…“So I think it is too early for the president to take a victory lap,” McCaskill said.

The facts? The U.S. economy created over two million jobs in 2017. American optimism on jobs hit an all-time high in 2017, according to Gallup. And, on Wednesday, the Labor Department just announced 12-month wage growth in the U.S. was higher in 2017 than at any point in several years.

As voters prepare to go to the polls in November 2018, McCaskill is selling one ugly image on the American economy. The facts are showing another.
