In Effort to Mock Trump and Ryan, Hollywood Director Mocks Childhood Cancer Survivors

A mean-spirited tweet by Hollywood director Joss Whedon went from bad to worse in a matter of minutes. It's the second time a Hollywood figure has mocked cancer survivors in an effort to mock Trump.

On Thursday night, Hollywood’s Joss Whedon, who directed “The Avengers,” made a crude joke about young women who met Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday, in a tweet that has since been deleted:

While the effort to mock these women, Ryan, and President Trump was poor from the start, it became worse when multiple people, including a staffer to the speaker, pointed out that the women pictured are childhood cancer survivors.

Whedon made a halfhearted apology on Thursday night, promising to “be quiet for a bit”:

Incredibly, this is not the first time that Hollywood elite have mocked cancer survivors in an effort to mock Trump in 2017. In March, liberal comedian Samantha Bee drew heat for mocking a young conservative’s “Nazi hair,” when he really had a particular haircut because he was being treated for brain cancer.

At the very least, Bee’s apology was stronger than Whedon’s apology:

Time will tell if Hollywood will lose its zeal to mock Trump, no matter who’s in the crossfire.
