In Likely 2020 Play, Booker Calls Anyone Who Supports Kavanaugh ‘Complicit’ in ‘Evil’

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), in a possible play to 2020 Democratic primary voters, called anyone who supports Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s elevation to the Supreme Court “complicit” in “evil” on Tuesday.

Booker also compared opposing Kavanaugh to the biblical Psalm of “walking through the valley of the shadow of death.”

Video of Booker’s remarks, as captured by the Republican National Committee (RNC):

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) also caught on to Booker’s radical comments, suggesting they show Democrats are struggling to discover a coherent narrative to oppose Judge Kavanaugh.

Of course, when Booker calls anyone who supports Kavanaugh “evil,” he may be including some of his own Democratic colleagues, who are considering a vote for Kavanaugh at this very moment. Needless to say, Booker is also calling millions of Americans who would support Kavanaugh’s confirmation “evil.”

Booker’s complete remarks:

“There is so much at stake here. This has nothing to do with politics. This has to do with who we are as moral beings. And so I wanna call on everybody – I’m not here to tell folk just what they should know. I’m here to call on folk to understand that in the moral moment, there is no, there is no neutral. In a moral moment, there is no bystanders. You are either complicit in the evil. You are either contributing to the wrong, or you are fighting against it. There’s a saying from the Abraham faiths in one of the psalms. It says, “ye though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death,” we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. But that doesn’t say “though I sit in the valley of the shadow of death.” It doesn’t say “I’m watching on the sidelines of the valley of the shadow of death.” It says “I’m walking through the valley of the shadow of death.” It says I am taking agency that I’m going to make it through this crisis. And so I am calling on everyone right now who understands what’s at stake. Who understands who Kavanaugh is. My [INAUDBILE] says if someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. He has shown us who he is.”
