A new CNN/Des Moines Register poll found that a majority of Iowa Republicans would support President Trump in 2020 if the Republican primary were held today, but a majority of Iowa Republicans would welcome a challenge to Trump, as well.

According to the poll, which was released on Monday, 67 percent of “registered Republicans say they would definitely vote to re-elect Trump if the election were held today,” and only 10 percent said they would “definitely vote for someone” other than Trump in 2020.

Iowa Republicans would also welcome a challenger to Trump with 63 percent of those polled saying the Iowa Republican Party should welcome a challenger.

The poll also found that 81 percent of Republican voters in Iowa approve of the job that Trump is doing, and 77 percent have a favorable view of the president.

As for the midterm elections, which saw Democrats take back the House of Representatives when they flipped 40 seats, a majority of Iowa Republicans (54 percent) blame Congressional Republicans for the defeat.

Meanwhile, only 24 percent of Iowa Republican blame Trump for the 2018 election losses.
