Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), a young GOP leader who has challenged President Trump on a number of fronts in 2017 and 2018, may be taking a step closer to a 2020 primary challenge of the president.

The senator is releasing a book in October 2018, according to the Lincoln Journal Star:

Sen. Ben Sasse is writing a book about the polarization of America.

The book is coming together during the 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. hours that Sasse devotes to reading and writing most days.

It’s going to be titled “Them,” with a subtitle of “Why We Hate Each Other and How to Heal,” Sasse said Wednesday during a telephone interview from Washington.

A book is seen in D.C. circles as one step toward a presidential run, and Sasse has been mentioned on the short list of possible Trump challengers a few times in the last two years.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has been less shy about his intentions, claiming last week that he’ll run against Trump if no one else who can claim a “traditional” Republican mantle does.

Sasse has made his disdain for the president public, as recently as Thursday. He tweeted about the “crazy uncles” – Trump and ex-Vice President Joe Biden – “fistfighting in the backyard” while D.C. adds $1.3 trillion to the national debt.
