Isner: ‘I’d Love to Have Trump Come Watch Me’ at Wimbledon

U.S. men’s tennis player John Isner said he would “love” for President Trump, on an overseas visit to the U.K. this week, to stop by and watch one of his matches at Wimbledon.

Isner, currently ranked the No. 10 player in the world, is the highest-ranking U.S. men’s tennis player. Trump arrives in the U.K. on Thursday, meaning Isner will need to win his match Wednesday against Canada’s Milos Raonic.

Isner also said, “I don’t care” if people are upset about his enthusiasm for Trump.

If Isner does reach the semifinals Friday, he would “love” for US President Donald Trump to watch him. Trump is due to visit the UK towards the end of this week.

“I’d love to have Trump come watch me,” he said. “That would be awesome. Maybe I’ll tweet at him if I win on Wednesday. I know a lot of people won’t like that, but I don’t care.”

Reporters asked 23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams a similar question, but she was less enthusiastic about the prospects of Trump in the audience. “I feel like he has the right to do whatever he wants to do. If he wants to come to a Wimbledon final, he has that right,” she said.

Williams faces Germany’s Julia Görges on Thursday in the women’s semi-final.
