Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat posed with a road sign for the forthcoming U.S. embassy on Monday morning, in one of the first visual steps signaling the coming historic move.

President Trump announced in December that he would honor a decades-old law and move the U.S. embassy to Israel’s holiest city.

His move was met with immediate praise. Barkat appeared on MSNBC the day of the announcement to laud Trump’s courage. “Here in Jerusalem and in Israel, we applaud the president,” the mayor told the network at the time.

And this morning, Barkat got to take one of the first, concrete official steps toward the embassy move. The mayor tweeted pictures of himself putting the embassy on a post in the city.

After Trump’s announcement in December, MSNBC reported that the president is “revered” in the Jewish nation.
