Rep. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), who decided to run for U.S. Senate after less than six months serving in the U.S. House, is fighting with her opponent, Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), over her support for the Iran nuclear deal.

It all started with a tweet from Heller’s campaign account on Tuesday, suggesting that Rosen doesn’t stand with Israel because she supports the Iran deal.

Rosen’s communications director, Stewart Boss, called the tweet “false, pathetic & offensive,” because Rosen is a former synagogue president.

Of course, Boss’s tweet did not address the key point from Heller: that Rosen supports the Iran deal. In fact, Rosen reiterated her support for the deal in a statement to The Nevada Independent published Thursday.

“The threat of a nuclear-armed Iran cannot be underestimated, and anything less than the end of the Iranian nuclear program is unacceptable,” Rosen said. “Now that the JCPOA has been agreed to, it needs to be robustly enforced. There’s broad consensus in the national security and intelligence communities that withholding certification or withdrawing from the JCPOA without evidence of a material breach would harm our global alliances, embolden Iran to continue its pre-deal nuclear development activities, and threaten our national security. I will continue to hold Iran accountable for its support of terrorism and ensure Iran does not develop a ballistic missile or nuclear program with the potential to threaten the U.S. and Israel.”

But, according to Haartez, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this week that “a cache of documents … proves Iran lied to the world about its nuclear program for years, even after the 2015 nuclear deal with the world.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Monday a cache of documents he says proves Iran lied to the world about its nuclear program for years, even after the 2015 nuclear deal with the world. “Iran did not come clean about its nuclear program,” Netanyahu said in a prime time address in English. Iran, for its part, blasted the speech as “propaganda.”

The Iran deal is guaranteed to be a continuing topic of discussion in Senate races, so Nevada voters may demand a more clear position from Rosen going forward.
