Jeff Denham: I’m Not Going to Have a Tough Re-Election Fight

"I’m not sure I’m going to have a tough reelection battle, especially running against somebody from San Francisco."

Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) sounded confident that he would not stand a tough reelection if his opponent is Democratic Congressional candidate Josh Harder, whom Denham attacked for being from “San Francisco” during an interview on Tuesday.

CNN’s John Berman asked Denham about a statement that Harder had made attacking Denham for his immigration reform effort and whether Denham was worried about reelection.

“I’m not sure I’m going to have a tough reelection battle, especially running against somebody from San Francisco. That doesn’t play well in my district,” Denham said. “But nevertheless, this is something that should have been done last year. It should have been last decade.”

Berman then asked Denham what he has done personally to advance immigration reform since getting elected to Congress.

“Personally, well I introduced the Enlist Act, which didn’t have support from either party until now. Now it’s part of each one of the Dreamer bills. I’m a co-author on several of these bills. I was a signer on the Gang of Eight bill,” Denham said. “This is something that’s a very personal issue to me. There will be some that will play partisan politics with this issue. Again, yes, I will get hit from the left and the right on this, but it’s the right thing to do, and that’s why I’m focusing on it.”
