Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), defended two of his colleagues accused of anti-Semitism, calling them “thoughtful” during a press conference on Tuesday.

A reporter asked Jeffries about whether the House would take up the Senate’s bill regarding the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and if he would condemn Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) over accusations of anti-Semitism.

The reporter cited a Daily Caller report about a top fundraiser for Tlaib who promoted anti-Semitic conspiracies.

“Well, I’m not sure what the Daily Caller has or has not said. I found those two new freshmen members to be thoughtful colleagues on a wide variety of issues,” Jeffries said.

Jeffries added that the “overwhelming majority” of the House Democratic Caucus is pro-Israel.

“That said, we are not going to allow the Senate Republicans to move legislation forward that really is a political stunt and not a serious effort at advancing American foreign policy interests,” Jeffries said.
