ESPN host Jemele Hill, an outspoken critic of President Trump and proponent of the Black Lives Matter movement, accused the president on MSNBC on Sunday of engaging in “racial pornography” for defending the national anthem.

Appearing on Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show, Hill took issue with Trump’s mention of the national anthem at the State of the Union.

“[Talking about the national anthem] is a very easy dog whistle. It’s low-hanging fruit,” Hill told Sharpton. “It’s what I like to call racial pornography.”

However, the ESPN host said that Trump’s strategy was “weirdly brilliant” because he turned the conversation to a discussion about patriotism.

“Really, if anybody knew just even the smallest bit of American history, they would understand that what the players have chose to do [by kneeling for the national anthem] is the most patriotic thing that you could do,” she added.

In September of last year, Hill stirred up controversy by calling the president a “white supremacist” on Twitter.
