Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday on CNBC that he thinks it is a mistake for Democrats to be talking about impeaching President Trump if they retake the House after the 2018 midterm elections.

CNBC’s Rebecca Quick also asked Kerry whether his new book, “Every Day is Extra,” is part of a lead up to a 2020 presidential campaign.

Kerry quickly denied that speculation, telling Quick that “Every Day is Extra” has nothing to do with a possible presidential run.

CNBC’s Joe Kernen then asked Kerry whether he is ruling out a 2020 presidential campaign completely.

“Look, I’ve said innocently that I haven’t ruled things out,” Kerry responded.

Kerry added that he is “really focused on 2018” at the moment, calling the upcoming elections “the most important course correction moment that the American people have right now.”

Kernen followed up by asking Kerry if he is talking about impeaching Trump.

“No, no, no. I think it’s a mistake. I don’t think people should be talking about impeachment,” Kerry said.
