Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) ignored a question regarding Democrat Richard Cordray’s lack of support for an assault weapons ban while entering the Ohio gubernatorial candidate’s fundraiser on Saturday.

Asked about his stance, Harris muttered, “Umm,” before ducking into the event.

The California Democrat has taken a strong stance on assault weapons, co-sponsoring a ban on assault-style firearms in Congress. In November 2017, she backed Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) effort to ban the sale, manufacturing, and possession of a “semiautomatic assault weapon.”

She tweeted in support of Feinstein’s bill:

But Cordray, the candidate for whom she was fundraising, has spoken out against an assault weapons ban. “Though much of the Democratic base is itching to take on the gun lobby, Cordray is having to live with his past courtship of it,” The Columbus Dispatch reported during his primary fight with Dennis Kucinich.

Kucinich used Cordray’s NRA-friendly stance against him in the primary, showing progressives video of the candidate attending gun rights rallies when he served as attorney general.
