Sen. Kamala Harris’s (D-CA) presidential campaign sent out a fundraising email to supporters on Thursday attempting to raise money off of former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s (D-TX) entry into the Democratic presidential primary.

The fundraising email had the simple subject line “Beto O’Rourke,” and it asked supporters to “pitch in a donation today.”

“We are facing something unprecedented: a record number of Democrats — including a record number of women and people of color — are running for President,” Harris wrote. “This is greatly encouraging for the future of our country, but there is still a long path ahead of us.”

This opening line is not-so-subtle jab at O’Rourke, who is a white man. Today’s Democratic Party is heavily focused on identity politics and privilege, and Harris’s opening line indirectly addresses both topics.

“I look forward to engaging in substantive debates with each of these candidates — including the newest to join the race today, Beto O’Rourke — and ultimately selecting a Democratic nominee who will take on and beat Donald Trump in November of 2020,” Harris continued.

Harris’ fundraising email then continued to take another shot at O’Rourke by mentioning what it takes to “run a winning campaign” on two seperate occasions, something O’Rourke failed to do in his last run for public office.

“Running a competitive, winning campaign will require building and sustaining a robust grassroots organizing program to get our message to voters across the country,” Harris’s email read.

“To run a winning campaign, we are going to have to cut through the noise of this crowded primary and share our message with as many voters as possible,” Harris said in the email.

Whether Harris’s email is a sign of trepidation or just smart fundraising tactics, one thing is clear: O’Rourke’s entry into the Democratic primary is getting the other candidates’ attention.
