Kamala Harris’ Senior Adviser Resigns Over $400k Sexual Harassment Case

A senior adviser to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) resigned on Wednesday after the Sacramento Bee called the senator’s office to inquire about her aide, Larry Wallace, and a sexual harassment settlement from 2016.

The offense occurred when Wallace worked at the California Department of Justice. At the time, Harris was the state attorney general.

Larry Wallace, who served as the director of the Division of Law Enforcement under then-Attorney General Harris, was accused by his former executive assistant in December 2016 of “gender harassment” and other demeaning behavior, including frequently asking her to crawl under his desk to change the paper in his printer.

The lawsuit was filed on Dec. 30, 2016, when Harris was still attorney general but preparing to be sworn in as California’s newly elected Democratic senator.

The Bee reported that Wallace settled the case for $400,000.

In a statement to the Bee, a Harris spokesperson said that Harris’ office “take[s] accusations of harassment extremely seriously.”

But that same spokesperson claimed Harris’ office was unaware of the case involving Wallace until the Bee contacted them.

Harris is widely viewed as a likely 2020 presidential candidate. Expect to hear questions about how and why Harris was unaware of sexual harassment taking place in her office as the Democratic candidates debate in the coming months.
