"I think Donald Trump is a reaction to that, as much as he's a reaction to first black president." Katy Tur said.

NBC News’ reporter Katy Tur said that she thinks the election of Donald Trump was a reaction to the Supreme Court decision allowing same-sex marriage in the United States and the first African-American president. Tur made the comments during an interview on the Australian talk show “Q&A.”

“I think if you look at the arc of history we’ve been moving in a more tolerant direction, most certainly. I think that we have – we fall back in times when we’ve lurched forward,” Tur said. “So if you’re taking just minorities as a whole we had, right before Donald Trump announced he was running for president, or right after, before he became a serious candidate, the vote for marriage equality in America, and the Supreme Court deciding that that was constitutional.”

“I think Donald Trump is a reaction to that, as much as he’s a reaction to first black president. I’m very curious to see what the reaction to Donald Trump looks like,” Tur said.
