Kavanaugh Moves One Step Closer to Confirmation

The United States Senate passed its motion to vote on cloture by a tally of 51 to 49 on Friday to sets up a weekend confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Joe Manchin (D-WV) all voted to move the process forward, while Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted against the motion. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) announced her intention to vote against Kavanaugh’s nomination earlier in the week.

This sets up 30 hours of debate in the Senate over Kavanaugh’s nomination, meaning that Kavanaugh could be voted on as early as 5PM on Saturday.

Collins, a crucial swing vote will announce at 3:00 PM whether she will support Kavanaugh.
