‘Keep Up the Good Work,’ Hillary Clinton Tells Child Kneeling for Pledge of Allegiance

In a tweet on Wednesday morning, failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton praised an 11-year-old girl for kneeling during the Pledge of Allegiance at school.

Clinton told the child to “keep up the good work,” and linked to a NowThis video of the student’s testimony to the school board.

When the student kneeled for the pledge, the video shows, a teacher told her that she was “disrespecting the country.”

“Legally, this is not in her rights as a teacher to speak to a student like this,” the student told the school board. It does not appear, from the video, that the teacher punished the student in any way other than voicing displeasure.

“[The student] says she was inspired by Colin Kaepernick, whose protests against racial injustice gained global attention,” NowThis wrote.

The two 2016 candidates seem to be on opposite ends of the issue, with President Trump often slamming NFL players who kneel for the national anthem. To Hillary Clinton, that kneeling is “good work.”
