Larry Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of “stabb[ing the United States] in the back” at the G7 summit this weekend, after the Canadian leader attacked President Trump in a press conference following fruitful trade negotiations.

“We went through [the trade issue]. We agreed. We compromised on the communique. We joined the communique in good faith,” he said. Then Trudeau, Kudlow continued, “holds a press conference, and he said the U.S. is insulting. He says that Canada has to stand up for itself.”

The economic adviser pointed out that Canada has placed massive tariffs on U.S. goods.

“He really kind of stabbed us in the back,” he added.

Kudlow described the meeting between Trudeau and Trump as “charming and good faith,” but Trudeau ruined it with a “sophomoric political stunt.”

The adviser added that Trudeau not only “doublecrossed” the United States, but the rest of the G7 as well.

Trump angrily tweeted about the Canadian prime minister himself Saturday evening, calling Trudeau “meek” and slamming his press conference.
