Mayor Eric Garcetti (D-Los Angeles), a potential Democratic candidate for president in 2020, told a TMZ cameraman this week that Hollywood should not purge President Trump’s Hall of Fame star from its sidewalks.

“We should be focused less on sidewalk problems and more on replacing a Congress that enables [Trump],” Garcetti said.

The mayor called for activists to push their energy towards activating voters and campaigning, instead of targeting the president’s sidewalk star.

The West Hollywood City Council officially requested this week that the city of Los Angeles remove Trump’s star.

Garcetti’s comments indicate that the removal of the star remains unlikely, and it could anger left-wing activists who vote in the 2020 Democratic primary.
