Gov. Larry Hogan’s (R-MD) campaign released its first ad of his reelection campaign over the weekend. Hogan takes the opportunity to remind Maryland voters about what things were like before he entered office, the improvements he’s enacted though the General Assembly, and the struggles he and the state have fought through together.

“Four years ago, almost half of us wanted to leave Maryland,” the narrator begins the ad, as a moving truck with “Virginia” drives past. The narrator then rattles off a series of stats: 43 tax hikes in a row, even taxing the rain; 8,000 businesses lost; 100,000 jobs lost.

“Then, we voted for change,” the narrator says as an image of Hogan appears. “We elected Larry Hogan.”

The ad boasts of $1.2 billion in tax, toll, and fee relief, four straight budgets with no tax increases, the highest funding for Maryland schools, ever, and the healthiest Chesapeake Bay in a generation.

The ad then mentions the racial upheaval in Baltimore as a result of the verdict in the Freddie Gray case and Hogan’s cancer diagnosis, noting he was there to lead during that crisis and Maryland was there for him during his.

“Together, we’re stronger than ever,” the narrator concludes. “Maryland strong.”
