Left-Wing Group Launches Attack Ads Against Democrats on Supreme Court

A new left-wing group focused on opposing President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, launched a new set of attack ads against three Democrats on Thursday.

The six-figure ad buy from Demand Justice, a liberal outside group, is airing in Indiana, North Dakota, and West Virginia, and is intended to send a message to Democrat Sens. Joe Donnelly, Heidi Heitkamp, and Joe Manchin, respectively. All three Democrats are up for reelection in November and represent states that Trump won by wide margins in 2016.

The ads attempt to paint Kavanaugh as an “establishment” pick and, bizarrely use Republican talking heads to bolster their argument.

“A lot of the folks in the base really were sort of turned off to Brett Kavanaugh,” says former Sen. Rick Santorum, a Pennsylvania Republican. “He is from Washington. He is the establishment pick.”

Ben Shapiro, the conservative commentator, then adds: “I’ve got problems with Kavanaugh in general. He’s kind of the DC insider pick.”

Judge Andrew Napolitano, a Fox News analyst, is shown saying, “This person is at the heart and soul of the DC establishment.”

Demand Justice has failed to gain much traction in its attempt to derail Kavanaugh’s nomination. Earlier this summer, they focused on Republican Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in an attempt to flip them to “no” votes on the judge. Both have made indications they are likely to support Kavanaugh, however.
