Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) criticized the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) direction under former administrator Richard Cordray in an appearance on CNN on Sunday.

“[The CFPB] is the most out-of-control, unaccountable federal agency in Washington. [There’s] really no oversight at all,” he said.

Graham took issue with the agency’s overly-zealous approach to pursuing small- and medium-sized banks. “They get into everybody’s business. They don’t add much at all to consumer protection. They sure add a lot to increasing costs for mid-sized banks throughout the country that had nothing to do with the financial collapse,” the senator added, slamming its current pursuits.

He also expressed hope that President Trump would appoint Mick Mulvaney to replace Cordray.
