Majority of Americans Oppose a Ban on Assault Rifles

A new Gallup poll found that a vast majority of Americans oppose banning semi-automatic guns.

Semi-automatic firearms are a type of gun, “which reload automatically but fire only once per trigger pull” and “have been used in a number of mass shootings in the U.S. in recent years.”

According to the poll, which was released on Friday, 57 percent of Americans oppose banning semi-automatic guns, while just 40 percent of Americans support such a ban.

The 40 percent of American who support a ban on semi-automatic guns is well below the historical average, which is 47 percent.

While 56 percent of Democrats support a ban, according to the poll, only 38 percent independents and 25 percent of Republicans support the idea of banning semi-automatic guns.

This poll flies in the face of Democrats, who in 2018 have been running on the campaign platform of banning semi-automatic weapons, often citing public support for such a ban.

This new Gallup poll shows that a majority of Americans actually oppose such a ban and that Democrats are once again playing to their far-left progressive base and not the majority of Americans.
