Aric Newhouse, a senior vice president of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), explained to The Washington Post on Tuesday that the manufacturing industry has added hundreds of thousands of jobs under President Trump and Republicans, while it was losing tens of thousands of jobs under the Obama administration.

“In 2016, the first five months of the year, the manufacturing sector lost 16,000 jobs,” Newhouse said of the Obama administration.

The Trump administration’s numbers have been much more promising. “In 2017, same period, first five months, the manufacturing sector created about 63,000 jobs,” he explained. “This year we’ve already created 115,000 jobs.”

Newhouse argued that there is a “direct relationship” between GOP policies and the advantages that manufacturing companies are enjoying.

“There’s an optimism that we’ve not seen before,” the expert said. “Ninety-five percent optimism about the future of the economy. We’ve been asking that question for 20 years, that’s the highest number we’ve ever seen.”

A vast majority of manufacturing companies plan on hiring more workers and increasing wages, according to Newhouse’s statistics.

President Trump promised on the campaign trail that he would bring back the manufacturing sector. The National Association of Manufacturers’ surveys indicate that he is well on his way to fulfilling that promise.
