Maxine Waters: “Don’t Forget, I Started” Impeach Trump Movement

"I believe that this president is dangerous. I think he has undermined our democracy. I think he's aligned himself with the enemy, with Putin."

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) asked MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Wednesday not to forget that it was her who started the campaign to impeach President Trump years ago.

Hayes pointed out that Waters had been outspoken about impeaching Trump, and asked her about Democrats who don’t want to impeach the president because they risk backlash.

“All of the descriptions of what would happen if we move to impeach Trump are basically excuses. Excuses because, you know, maybe they don’t want to fail at it. Maybe they believe that Trump will cause a revolt. You know, you talk about violence, you know, and they accuse others of violence. This president basically said ‘if you move to impeach me, my people are going to revolt,'” Waters said. “And maybe some of that is resonating with, you know, the senators, the members of Congress, Republican or Democrat.”

“I believe that this president is dangerous. I think he has undermined our democracy. I think he’s aligned himself with the enemy, with Putin,” Waters added. “I believe that he certainly qualifies for impeachment.”

“He deserves to be impeached,” Waters said.

Hayes told Waters that the topic of impeachment, and those who support it and oppose it, will be one of more interesting dynamics in the new Congress.

“Don’t forget, I started this a long time ago,” Waters interjected. “I’m sticking with it.”
