House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said, during an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, that if House Republicans can stay within six points of House Democrats on a generic ballot then Republicans will keep control of the House.

CNBC’s Becky Quick asked McCarthy about recent polling that showed the Democrats’ advantage on a generic congressional ballot has been shrinking.

“If the polls say it’s Democrats are three points we will keep the majority,” McCarthy said. “If it’s plus-six or less Republicans will keep the majority.”

A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll showed that Democrats had just a four-point advantage over Republicans on a generic congressional ballot.
