House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), in an appearance on CNN on Sunday, pushed back on former Speaker John Boehner’s criticism of the Republican Party’s role in the Trump era.

“There is no Republican Party. There’s a Trump party,” Boehner said on Thursday. “The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere.”

McCarthy told CNN’s Dana Bash that the party has “changed for the better.”

The House majority leader touted Republicans’ accomplishments.

“We’re at 3.8 percent unemployment. This ties a 50-year low in America,” he said. “African Americans and women are at the lowest in unemployment.”

“We’ve actually eliminated [modern-day human trafficking] when it comes to online,” McCarthy argued.

Possibly the next speaker of the House, he also praised Republicans for getting tough on North Korea and upping defense spending.

“I’m proud of this Republican Party,” McCarthy said. “That is a party that stands on their principles. That is part of what we ran on. That is part of what we said we would do. And you know what? We’re accomplishing it.”
