House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that he is humbled by Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) endorsement of him to be the next Speaker of the House, during a Tuesday interview on CNBC, but added that he is focused on keeping the Republican majority in the House.

CNBC’s Becky Quick asked McCarthy about Ryan’s endorsement of him, and reports that McCarthy’s relationship with Ryan is frayed because Ryan isn’t stepping down immediately.

McCarthy denied that his relationship with Ryan is frayed.

“I’m humbled that Paul would say that,” McCarthy said, of Ryan’s apparent endorsement. “But what’s most important, Kevin [Brady] will tell you and every member of this conference, we have to make sure a Republican could become speaker in the next Congress.”
