McCaskill: Al Franken’s Apology ‘Refreshing’

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said this week that the apology from her colleague Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) for the sexual harassment charges against him was “refreshing.”

“I think one thing that certainly was refreshing about Al Franken was his immediate apology and his requesting the investigation. I think we ought to let that investigation run it’s course,” she says.

However, 50 percent of Americans, including 49 percent of Democrats and 56 percent of Republicans, want Franken to resign “outright,” according to a new poll from Morning Consult and Politico.

Those half of Americans may disagree with McCaskill’s claim that the apology is “refreshing.”

It’s the latest misstep in a year full of them for McCaskill, who has seen her approval rating drop five percentage points over the last few months. She is one of the most vulnerable incumbents up for re-election to the Senate in 2018.
