McCaskill: I’d Vote to Repeal Part of the GOP Tax Cuts

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), often considered the most vulnerable Senate incumbent in 2018, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch this week that she would vote to repeal parts of the GOP tax cuts.

Sen. Claire McCaskill says she would vote to repeal tax cuts aimed at the rich in the bill passed by Republicans and signed into law by President Donald Trump late last year, but that she would “never vote to repeal the parts that help middle-class families.”

“But there are parts of it that I would look at,” McCaskill, D-Mo., told the Post-Dispatch.

“For example, I don’t think people who make $400,000 in Missouri need a child-care tax credit. I am not sure that my family needs to pay less in estate taxes. I am not sure the pharmaceutical industry needs the level of windfall they have received without lowering prescription drug prices.[“]

It’s unclear whether McCaskill would keep her promise to not repeal portions benefiting the middle-class, though. The Missouri senator dismissed the benefits workers have seen from the GOP tax cuts in February, saying, “we are continuing to see very meager wage growth.”

That doesn’t sound like someone who’s enthusiastic about keeping the tax bill in place. Missouri voters may take McCaskill to task for it in November.
