McCaskill: ‘It Would Be Terrific’ if Obama ‘Worked and Campaigned’ Around U.S.

Earlier this week, Politico reported that former President Barack Obama will raise money for vulnerable Sen. Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) reelection in Hollywood.

NTK Network pointed out McCaskill’s ten-year-long ties to Obama, and noted that it may be difficult for McCaskill to win reelection in a red state in 2018 by hugging a former liberal president.

McCaskill’s response to the scrutiny? She doubled down.

The Kansas City Star‘s Bryan Lowry reported:

McCaskill, a Democrat who is running for re-election in a state that went for President Donald Trump by double digits, said she welcome a campaign stop in Missouri if Obama decides to take a more active role in the campaign as Democrats try to recapture the U.S. Senate.

“I don’t know how much he’s going to be campaigning. I don’t know if he’s going to agree to campaign for anyone at this point,” McCaskill said. “I think it would be terrific if he worked and campaigned around the country for a variety of candidates. … If he wants to come here and campaign, I would never turn down a previous president.”

We’ll check back in November to see if McCaskill’s strategy, which seems to hinge on Obama and Hollywood fundraisers, won her another six years in Missouri.
