McCaskill Re-Heats Hillary Clinton Proposals for Her Re-Election Campaign

If McCaskill is trying to put some distance between her and the unpopular presidential candidate, this is not the way to do it.

McCaskill Re-Heats Hillary Clinton Proposals for Her Re-Election Campaign

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) spent part of her weekend touting her plan to ban pharmaceutical companies from deducting advertisements on their tax bill.

Missourinet reported:

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, says banning pharmaceutical companies from deducting drug advertisements on their taxes would have a very positive impact on the nation’s opioid crisis. She is investigating ways that addictive prescription drugs are being marketed by companies.

“Right now, all these pharmaceutical companies are spending more on sales and marketing than they are on research,” says McCaskill. “We all know how often we see ads for prescription drugs on television.”

Does the proposal sound familiar? It should. Hillary Clinton proposed the very same plan in Missouri’s neighbor to the north, Iowa.

From Ad Age in September 2015:

As part of her war on high prescription prices, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton says she would end tax breaks for televised drug ads.

She rolled out her plan at a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa, a proposal that also include a cap on out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs to help patients with chronic or serious health conditions.

Clinton, of course, lost Missouri to Donald Trump by 18.5 points in 2016. McCaskill’s similarities to Clinton have become a subject of a recent ad against McCaskill, ahead of her tough 2018 re-election campaign.
